Hiding Places
Children often hid in monasteries and orphanages. They would also hide with Christian family to hide that they were not Jewish. Children would hide the in forest for a little while, until they found a better solution, because it was not a good hiding spot. Children, who did hide with other families, normally came to custody problems at the end of the war. The children who went to monasteries, had to convert to Christianity and would not normally go back to Judaism.
Anywhere anyone could hide was used. Basements, attics, and barns were all used. Some hid in caves and holes, even dug holes below their homes. People would spend months inside hollow trees or sleeping behind rocks. They even hid in the sewers. One of the reasons why the forest was not a good hiding place was because it was bombed by both the allies and German forces.
