Great Britain

The Allies consisted of Great Britain, USA, Russia, and France. Great Britain played a large part in the ending of World War II. During the war many of the countries that were considered the Allies had no idea that the Nazi's held the Jews in their large Concentration Camps. Great Britain played a large roll with supplying the Allies with guns, ammo, and blueprints of the Nazi buildings, bases, and camps. However, they did have a good idea where they would hit the hardest. It would be near Berlin at one of their main bases, this was their main focus point because they knew that it was a major command post and this would wipe out a large sum of communication between the other Axis power countries. At the time, Britain sent many spies to spy on the Nazi's dealings. In many of the instances they found that the Nazi's were purchasing or making poisonous gas. However, while Britain was hard at work suppliying and spying for the Allies the Americans would be the main country that would be responsible for actually bombing the Nazi Camps.
Great Britain was located closer to Germany, so they were responsible for fighting first hand against the Nazi party. According to some, Great Britain and Russia were the the owners of some of the most destructive weapons on the planet at the time. While the Nazi's had the concentration camps that were responsible for the extermination of large numbers of Jews, their military had trouble matching with the Allies. Since the Camps were spread out, obviously different countries that were in the Ally party were responsible for the destruction of different camps. Also, many of Great Britains attacks were air attacks which came from either helicopters or more commonly airplanes. Now, the Nazi's were in a group, an army so to speak called the Axis powers. These powers consisted of Italy, Romania, Japan, Germany, and Bulgaria. The so called Axis powers were united in 1940 by a pact called the Tripartite Pact which is another word for three power Pact. As you may conclude, the three major powers were; Germany, Italy, and Japan.
The war was devastating to both parties. It resulted in the death of 60 million people and cost about a trillion U.S dollars worldwide. Making it the most costly war in history. One of the most helpful and important agreement that the U.S had with Great Britain was the Destroyers for Bases agreement. It, stated was that the U.S would give Great Britain 50 destoyers which they were in need of, in exchange for land rights in Britain. This gave Britain a huge advantage in the fight against the Axis Powers because they were able to have water attacks using the destroyers which obviously Germany had no idea they had.
Now, another important point I would like to cover is the Battle of Britain. The story behind the name Battle of Britain is actually quite interesting, it originated through one of Winston Churchill's speech's which took place in the House of Commons, the lower level of parliament. in his speech he stated; "The Battle of France is over. I expect the Battle of Britain is about to begin." The Battle of Britain was mainly a mini war that started on June 10, 1940. It was considered to be the most intense period of daylight bombing in history. It lasted for roughly 4 months, ending on October 31 of the same year. The Battle of Britain was unique for being a battle that only consisted of air attacks. Air attacks consist of dropping deadly bombs on major towns, and bases of the enemy. This is just one of the aspects of air attacks, they also consist of exchanging fire between enemy planes, and it is complete chaos. The Germans named their air force Luftwaffe, which is a generic term for air force. It is also the official name for two of the four historic German air forces. Great Britain left most air fights to the United States Air Force, because the US had more aircrafts and they were equipped with state of the art navigation, which was important during the war. Finally, Great Britain was focusing on German attack using their newly received destoyers. Although Germany may have had better tactics the US pressed non-stop. On October 18, 1940 the bombing of Britain ended and approximately 2 months later the Luftwaffe was practically decimated. On December 18, 1940 Hitler gave the orders to end the effort to destroy Great Britain.
Battle of the Ardennes was an attack made by the American's and the British, it was in attempt to gain possession of one of Germany's major battle fronts. Many people might not recognize the name, the reason for this is that during 1944 the public didn't call it the Battle of the Ardennes, they called it the Battle of the Bulge. The name Battle of Ardennes background story is that it was named after a major German offensive on the Western Front which was launched towards the end of World War II. The public like I said earlier named this battle, Battle of the Bulge, the Bulge they was the initial incursion the Germans put into the Allies line of advance which was presented in contemporary news paper articles. Germanys plan of attack mainly consisted of simply splitting the British and American forces line in half. The German's plans were done in complete secrecy meaning in this situation, that the Germans used radio jammer's and all meeting's were held in a location that was most likely to change the night before and or the day of. This strategy insured the German's that no outside forces such as the Allies in this case wouldn't know the whereabouts of the German's. Although the Germans did a fantastic job of staying well hidden from the Allies the Allies were still able to intercept radio messages, that suggested a possible German offensive. The word offensive which I have used in this paragraph many times refers to an attack attack on opposing forces. The Battle of the Bulge was known for being the bloodiest of the battles that U.S. forces experienced in World War II, ending in the death of 19,000 American soldiers. The bloody battle finally was put to an end on January 25 1945, and will never be forgotten.
Operation Torch also known as the Operation Gymanast was an attack, on French North Africa. The Attack would be conducted by the Americans and Great Britain, and would start on November 8, 1942. At the time Japan (one of the main Axis Powers) was in control of the territory at the time of the first attack which would take place on the 21st of November. If you look at a map you will see that Northern Africa is surrounded by water so, most of the attacks conducted by the British would be water attacks. As I said in earlier paragraphs the Americans had a very strong Air Force, so they would be responsible for the majority of the air attacks. The invasion would be made by the U.S 34th Infantry and the brigade of the British 78th. Planes weren't just for fighting they would also transport the American and or British troops to their entended location. On December 3, 1942 the Japanese
General Juin whom was responsible for the restiance against the Allies would finally surrender the base.
Great Britain played a very large roll in the defeat of the Axis powers and the Nazi party. On April 29 German forces would surrender to the Allies, but that didn't mean that the other two major powers (Italy and Japan) had also! Italy didn't really have a choice, on the 28th of April their leader Mussolini had been captured and excuted by the Allies therefore putting Italy in complete mayhem. Two days later, Hitler committed suicide resulting in Karl Donitz becoming the new head of state. One more country was still left in play, Japan. As you may conclude, the Allies didn't take this well and began dropping atomic bombs on Hiroshima, Nagasaki. I believe this swayed Japan to surrender, and on August 15 ,1945 they did surrender. Thus bringing an end to World War II.
In conclusion, Germany was separated in 4 different zones each Ally country was responsiable for occupiying a zone. Great Britain and France would occupy the Western zone. The United States and the Soviet Union occupied Eastern Germany. These zones would become a blueprint for Western and Eastern Germany which would soon become the foundation for the well known Cold War.
