  England During World War Two

Before and the beginning of the War

England played a vital role in the fight against Germany and the Nazis during World War Two.  At the time, the Prime Minister of England was Winston Churchill.  England declared war on Germany on September 1, 1939.  They declared war when Germany attacked Poland because England had an ally with Poland.  The major fighting against Germany really began when Germany invaded France.  During the invasion Germany set up their troops and supplies along the Maginot line, or the line dividing France and Germany.  Even though the English helped fight against the Germans with the French, the Germans ultimately beat them back and the full invasion of France was commenced on June 22, 1940.

Germany then looked onward to England after the victory and then started to bomb England using the tactical bombing strategy.  This bombing strategy is when the bombers bomb military personnel and try to take out as many lives as they can.  this is very different from the bombing strategy of England and the strategy of America.  England and America both use the strategic bombing strategy which is when bombers bomb the supplies and other buildings that would take less lives but do just as much damage to the country itself. This tactic worked because the bombs would not only inflict damage to buildings and supplies but also to the morale of the German soldiers because they would realize that their supplies are dwindling and start panicing.  This idea worked very well as the turn out of the war was inthe favor of the Allies.

During the War

During the war, England played a vital role in the overthrowing of the Nazis.  They fought in a North African campaign against the Germans.  They also fought against the Italians mainly so that they could stretch all the Nazi forces out across Europe so as to create easier battles to win and move more swiftly across the continent.  This tactic worked very well and ultimately cut down the German forces.

Another major battle that the english fought in was the battle of Normandy, or otherwise known as D-Day.  The British contributed by sending 2 divisions on the beach head codenamed Sword and Gold.  they also sent an airborne division behind enemy lines, the 6th airborne division.  They also contributed an amrored division, the 79th.  This armored division played major role in the battle by clearing mines that had not already exploded, if they hadn't done that thousands more soldiers would have died.  The 6th airborne division landed almost on top of the Germans and protected the west flank of the invading allies.

After Normandy, the Germans attacked the allied front creating the Battle of the Bulge
